
Magnificent Mile
One mile long part of North Michigan Avenue has been redeveloped after the great fire from 1871.
At the beginning of 20th century became the main shopping street in Chicago with elegant shops and hotels between the skyscrapers, including Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower and
John Hanckock Center with the panorama gallery located 305 m above the ground.
Sears Towers
One of the highest buildings in the world has been finished in 1974. The height of Sears Towers building is 443 m, or including TV antenna 527 m.
During the summer holidays the long queues gather before the entrance to the lift taking the visitors to the panorama platform atop.
Navy Pier
The family fun and entertainment in Chicago is secured by the visit to the pier, which served for navy purposes during the Second World War.
The facilities near the shore include merry-go-round, the big wheel ( 45 m ) IMAX 3D and Chicago Children’s Museum nearby.
Lincoln Park Zoo
Another choice for vacation’s day is the visit to the local ZOO. There are two zoological gardens in Chicago : Brookfield Zoo and the smaller, established
in 1868 Lincoln Park. The zoo area is surrounded by the big public park and adjacent sandy beaches and recreation places.
Museum of Science and Industry
The museum has been founded by Julius Rosenwald with aim to educate young students in various fields of temporary science.
The ‘must’ include the legendary train from 1930′s Silver Arrow, a Boening 727 flight simulator and 5 m high working model of human heart.
John G. Shedd Aquarium
Supplied by the waters of Lake Michigan exhibits the reconstruction of Coral Reef, the giant terrarium resembling the Amazon jungle, and dozens smaller containers with fish species from the whole globe. Everyday shows by dolphins and white wales gather the biggest number of spectators here.
Oak Park
The park outside of city center features 25 buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, his studio
and the small museum located in the birthplace of Ernst Hemingway, who spent his childhood there.
Art Institute of Chicago
The museum exhibits collection of various art items made within the span of 5000 years of human creativity.
The most intersting are works of Rembrandt van Rijn, Marc Chagall and Georges Seurat.
Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum
The museum features vast collection of old astronomical tools and time measurement instruments. The most intersting, however, are the shows during which the spectators can travel beyond the Solar System, experience Milky Way tour and see the night sky in the traditional planetarium.
Field Museum
Featuring items from the vast collection gathered by the Natural History Museum are the earth house of Tawnee Indians from 19th century and
the house made of mammoth bones brought from Ukraine, where it had been originally found.
The Children will enjoy the model world of unnatural-sized plants and insects that live underground.
