The Republic of Maldives, better known as Maldives Islands, is a small island in between the Indian Ocean. Its largest city and also the capital is Male, having a population of over 100,000 people. Known to be the smallest Asian country, both in terms of population as well as land area, Maldives is also the lowest country on Earth being just 1.5 meters above sea level.
The only airport in the whole island is the Male international airport situated in the city of Male. Having GMT of +5, Maldives officials prefer to set their own island time due to the very reason of highly flourished tourism industry here. Transportation time also works according to the official Maldives island time zone. All the major airway flights land here at the Male international Airport. However, there takes place a 50-minute transportation time to transfer the tourists from airport to the land area and the total cost for that accounts to about $500 to go with the 3.5% local tax amount for one adult and half the price mentioned just now for a child under the age of 12 years.
Dhivehi is the mother tongue of the local residents of this island and it is said to be a combination of a lot of Sri Lankan and Asian languages. The local currency of this island is Rufiya that is equivalent to USD 0.9. From shopping places to play areas for children, Maldives islands have it all to attract more and more tourists and that is the reason of high revenues generated by the tourism industry over here.
