Central Europe’s third-largest lake is the largest one in Germany and also the most popular one described as the Germany’s capital of summer sports . The lake area is shared by the three countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In Austria and Switzerland it is called Lake Constance from the most important medieval town Konstanz,in Germany it is called Bodensee.

The numerous days of sun and mild climate make the area popular among sun worshippers, who can also enjoy the heated lakeside pools and relaxing treatment in spas around the lake.
The waters of the lake are ideal for swimming, diving, sailing and windsurfing. There is no problem with rental of boat or motorboat for cruising, or a bike to travel around the lake.
The new attraction are the flights in the old fashioned Zeppelin slowly moving over the picturesque landscape.
Located on the border with Switzerland the town Konstanz offers the visitors the area for shopping, local restaurants,a casino and quite developed night life.
Near Konstanz there is a small island Mainlau famous for its subtropical gardens, opened for the tourist the whole year round. The island once was a residence of the Knights of the Teutonic Order,unfortunately their former castle is closed for visitors.
On the opposite side of the lake there is an old town Lindau. Since the end of the 9th century it was a free imperial town of the Holy Roman Empire, to became later the main Bavarian trade center with Switzerland.
The historical centre of Lindau features several old buildings including the 15th century townhall, the Diebsturm (Thieves’ Tower) and two lighouses, ech one can be climbed to the top awarding effort with splendid views of the lake and the surrounding Alps.
