The small river Havel meanders through suburbs of Berlin forming near Wansee small lakes Tiefer See and Glienicker See. Here, on the road connecting Potsdam and Berlin stretches long metal construction of
Glienicker Bruecke. After the war the part of the border between East and West Berlin went over Havel river,
and the bridge became one of the entry checkpoints to the separated parts of the city.

Glienicker Bridge in Potsdam
This border point was quiet and unpopular till 1962, when the bridge witnessed the exchange of spies between
East and West, including an American pilot Garry Powers. The picturesque spot of exchange with beautiful views across the river featured later in numerous action movies, which finally tributed to the nickname ‘ the bridge of spies ‘.
About the mile from the bridge, there is a small palace Cecilienhof, which in 1945 hosted the famous Potsdam Conference shaping Europe after the end of WWII.
